In a previous article, kinzer@dtsdev0.sps.mot.com (Dave Kinzer) says:

>have leftover pieces, but it is usually 75 ohm cable. Any pointers

There was a fellow advertising in 73 magazine who sold 1/4 wave matching units
for 75 ohm CATV cable. As well, I recall seeing an article in the same
rag which actually described how build these matching devices using
copper pipe/tubing and type N connectors. I will try to find this article
if you wish.
I recalling seeing something in QST technical notes suggesting using a
copper pipe reducer to fit the type N connector to the CATV cable.
Then ensure the 75 cable is cut to a multiple of 1/2 wavelength.
(taking into account VF)
I got over 100 feet of 3/4 inch 75 ohm hardline from my local cable
company for FREE!! It's still sitting in my garage awaiting the
installation of a tower. I used the spool for a picnic table.

Another ham E-mailed this very suggestion as well, and thanks for the
input. The limitation of these is that they work at one frequency. I
tend to have great interest in fiddeling with one thing, getting it
to work, using it for a while, and going on to the next. On the other
hand, running the cables through my house is something I'd rather only
do once. Thus is born my desire to have 50 Ohm cabling, which is
50 Ohm at any frequency. My 2M/.7M desire of today is likely to turn
to 1.2GHz at a moment's notice (or is 6M next? Who knows?!?)
I suppose I could run the 75 Ohm cabling with 75 Ohm connectors, and build
the matching sections for each band externally. Given the difficulty of
this installation, (I still don't exactly know how I'm going to do it,) I
wouldn't mind putting some bucks into it to get it right the first time.

Have you made contact with the Motorola Canada sales force? They have a
full
set of operations and service manuals for this unit available from their
Parts Department. Don't expect this unit to have quite the same bench test
(ideal)
sensitivity as the stuff rolling off today's production lines, but when the
noise floor is 10 microvolts, you won't care anyhow.

Subject: htx-202 audio mod (?)
To: ham-equip@ucsd.edu
I recently got an htx202 and since I've been using it, I have gotten
signal reports that my audio is low. someone mentioned that radio
shack will do an audio circuit mod for free if it is under warranty.
anybody here knows what the mod is ? and if it can be done without
taking it to the RS service center which is open only at a very
inconvenient time.

Often when I talked to people they were able to guess I was using
an HTX202 based on the audio levels. I took mine to the local
repair center, and the tech said mine was about as low as he had
seen it. I think it is more like a quick adjustment rather than
a mod.
I believe it works better now, because I have asked folks and they
say that the audio is sufficient.
By the way, record all of your memory settings. When you get your
radio back, its memory will be clear.

I believe that there is a file that describes the process for the Mitrek
available via anonymous ftp to ftp.catt.ncsu.edu in pub/hamradio.

I need a manual (preferably with schematic) for an old Knight 50 Watt
HF transmitter. Anyone who can help me out reply by email.
Thanks...

You will find that the Heil units are carried by Amateur Electronic Supply
(AES)
in their mail-order catalog. They are also available from many local
amateur
stores-have you checked with your local dealers?

Subject: Watkins-Johnson HF-1000 receiver questions
To: ham-equip@ucsd.edu
I read a few catalog descriptions and Tom Roach's
Usenet review of the pricey Watkins-Johnson HF-1000
receiver. Can someone with an HF-1000 answer these
questions?
1. Does the HF-1000 have a passband tuning control
which functions for SSB? AM? The Grove catalog
mentions the passband tuning only on CW, but the
EEB catalog doesn't specify.
2. What bandwidths are available for FM reception?
3. Is the notch an IF notch? Does it affect the AGC?
4. How many VFOs (not memory channels) does the HF-
1000 have?
5. Is a service manual furnished with the HF-1000 or
is it an extra cost option?
6. Is there a squelch control? Does it work on all
modes?
7. When scanning memory channels, I want the receiver
to only resume scanning a few seconds after the
signal disappears. I don't want the receiver to
resume scanning in the middle of a transmission.
Does the HF-1000 support such operation?
Thanks.

To: ham-equip@ucsd.edu
On my normal trek from the University of North Texas to Houston, I often
stop along the way for the obligatory gatorade.. Due to road conditions
I stopped at a truckstop... As I was browsing their radio/radar gear I
came across a midland device.. It had a mic jack but no indicator of what
you were transmitting.. There were a good deal of buttons though like
<"FOG1" "FOG2"... "AGND" etc etc> What is it? What does it do?
Anyone?
